Into the swirling matter of the brain beast

In which I release some Behind the Streams video posts from behind the paywall.

Into the swirling matter of the brain beast

Here’s a gift. No returns!

Back in April, I turned on the paid option for this newsletter. Boring. I know, right? Okay. I won’t bury the lede.

tl;dr I’ve opened up some of the paywalled video posts for everyone. Links below.👇

If you’re a paid subscriber, fear not: the last two months’ worth of Behind the Streams will always be behind a paywall, which means you just get access to the voiceover and video and extra materials I put in the post before everyone else. You still get the goods. As always, I appreciate your support of my writing. It means a lot.

A refresher: What is Behind the Streams?

I make these little behind-the-scenes posts—a video address if you like—every week about the free post that goes out on Monday. Sometimes talk about the post itself, but a lot of times just talk about the ideas and the theme of the post. The post also includes background source materials and music and stuff like that.

That’s about it.

I put a lot of time into the videos and I’d love more people to watch them, hence the regular ‘release from the paywall’ of them once they’re free of the two-month window. As an aside, I’m also re-editing some of the earlier ‘rougher’ ones, and reuploading since my style has gotten tighter and flow, better. As an aside aside to the aside, I’m also putting them on YouTube, but without the background post with all the fun extras.

I’ll stop waffling.

Here are a few episodes to get you started 👇

Behind the Streams, Ep 23: "Jam"
Watch now (9 mins) | The answer to your creative problems is in the jam. Take a video deep dive into the inspiration for this post - a traffic jam in the Alps - and see where I went with it.
Behind the Streams, Ep 25: "Mountain"
Watch now (12 mins) | What say you on the subject of mountains? This week, we deep dive into how they speak to us, using the medium of someone who dug landscapes - the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. I hope you enjoy it.
Behind the Streams, Ep 19: "Worms"
Watch now (13 minutes) | Wake up! Time is a-wasting. Time to get to work. Today, I tell the story of the worm that, after 46,000 years frozen in the permafrost, thawed out and came back to life. Wake up! Let's all defrost and come back to life.
Behind the Streams: "Life Box"
Watch now (13 min) At the start of your life, you are given a box. It's time to learn all about the Philosophy of the Life Box. What's in your life box? What do you hang on to that you should let go? Why do we hang on to stuff?
Behind the Streams: Raise Your Voice
Watch now (11 mins) | It's good to look back to see how far you've come. Who inspired you as a young writer or artist? Did you copy them when you were younger? This is the episode in which I ROAST the teenage scrawlings of Janeen. I found them in that there book I'm holding.

The outro

I do plan to sort the Behind the Streams page so you can see at a glance what’s behind the paywall and what’s FREE FROM SHACKLES, but like anything this time of year, I am so swamped in festive cheer that it’s laughable and I can’t get on top of anything. Which reminds me, it’s the big holiday week—whatever the holiday is for you—so I wish you a happy time.

I was going to do a video Christmas Address, just like the Queen-no-King, but as I mentioned, I couldn’t get my life organized properly and this is what you’ve got instead. There it is again. Organization issues.

It’s just me and how I operate.

At a level. That’s it. Just…a level.

Love. Peace. Snickerdoodles.
